Events surrounding the Cold War

What caused the breakup of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War?  Did US foreign policy under Reagan and Bush contribute significantly to the withdrawal of Soviet power from Eastern Europe?  Did the collapse of the USSR show the strength of the United States and its allies or the weakness of Soviet Communism?  Explain.   Explanation of issue: student will be able to identify and clarify problems, questions, and issues  Provide an introductory paragraph to your paper.  This will consist of at least 3-4 sentences explaining the background to your topic.  A thesis statement that lays out what you will be writing about is needed; however, do not use 1st or 2nd person point of view.  Provide some consensual information.  For example, the Cold War is thought to have ended in 1989 and the collapse of the Soviet Union was in 1991.  Mention the fall of the Berlin Wall and when it occurred and the transition away from communist governments in Eastern Europe.
