Final Integrative Case Study on Nam Moi: A Young Girl’s Story of Her Family’s Escape from Vietnam by Charlene Lin Ung Papers will be typed in 12-point Times New Roman (or 10 pt. Arial or equivalent), double-spaced, and using 1 inch margins on all sides. APA citation style must be used for references in the text and in the reference list. Paper format will generally be in APA style—title page, abstract, body of the paper with headings as appropriate, and references. But, obviously, it is not an empirical report, so sections such as methods or results are not appropriate. Use headings to identify the major sections of your paper. These might include headings such as the following: Summary, Factors Contributing to Traumatic Events, Social Context, Reexperiencing Trauma, Cumulative Risk Factors, Resiliency Factors, Treatment Possibilities. Note that these are simply possibilities. Your headings might be more specific. Whatever section headings you actually use will depend on your particular case and analysis. Every paper should present: • A summary of the case with special attention to developmental trauma o If your case involves more adult trauma, try to tie it into parenting, i.e., how generational trauma can influence parenting and therefore reach down to the next generation. o Alternately, it may be that adult trauma is built on childhood vulnerabilities. You can focus on risk and resiliency factors (e.g., attachments, etc.). • A discussion of factors that contributed to the traumatic event or events • A discussion of the individual’s experience of trauma by their developmental level • A discussion of the developmental consequences of traumatic experiences • A discussion of treatment as experienced and/or treatment that might have been and the difference it might have made • Inclusion to social, cultural, historical contexts as appropriate • Integration of theoretical and/or empirical literature throughout every discussion • A final synthesis and conclusion When you integrate the literature, be sure to say enough about what you are citing that it’s relevance is clear. The bottom line is this: It is not enough to re-tell the story of someone’s trauma. That should be a brief orientation to the reader. The majority of your paper should be spent applying what we have discussed in class to this case. In other words, this should not be a paper you could have written before the semester began; it must integrate course material. These papers will be substantial with an estimated 10-12 pages required to cover all of these topics with connections to the literature. Each paper should also have at least 8 references from the professional literature. These should include readings from class.
