Extract from syllabus Step 3: Paper # 3 will explain in more detail the extent of the problem in at least 2 countries/regions, and explain what activities at least 4 of the IGOS/NGOs featured in paper # 2 are carrying out in those countries/regions. (Minimum 1000 words and 6 sources) (8pts) B. Content, subject line, introduction, and conclusion Content The briefing paper must include the following: · Subject line · Introduction · For each country/region: o Describe the extent of the issue, its causes and impact. Include trends and data. (roughly 20% of the paper) o Describe what contribution the international community is making including at least 4 IGOs/NGOs. Make sure that at least 1 IGO and 1 NGO is featured for each country. However it will be much easier to write the paper if more than this minimum is included. Note you don’t need to limit yourself to the IGOs/NGOs included in paper #2. In this regard you should take into account feedback given to you in paper #2. · One paragraph of evaluation on how well the problem is being addressed and general comments on the approaches being taken. · Conclusions Note you can include images, graphs etc, but these won’t count towards the number of words. Subject line Should clearly indicate the topic and what is being covered in the paper. Introduction The introduction should be the last part of the paper that you write. It should introduce the paper. It should contain: · The subject of the paper; · Your thesis or theme i.e. what you are saying about your topic; · How the paper is organized; and · Your main conclusions. Conclusion Conclusions should be derived from the body of the paper. No new material should be introduced in the conclusion. While conclusions can contain personal opinion they must be backed up by the information provided in the body of the paper. C. Marking scheme Content (40 pts) Includes: Content and Responsiveness to question (30 pts) and Key Terms and Concepts (10 pts); Organization and Argument (25 pts) References/sources/APA compliance (15 pts) Language (20 pts) Includes: Vocabulary, Sentence and Paragraph Structure (10 pts); Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation (10 pts). D. APA Format Papers must have in text citations for all information included, not just quoted text. APA guidance is posted on blackboard.
