Family diversity current event

The purpose of the current event exercise is to help students become aware of the incidence and treatment of issues related to family diversity in a current and immediate sense. Part 1: Write 2-3 paragraphs (6-8 sentences minimum/paragraph)  1.    Student must choose a newspaper article related to family diversity in a current and immediate sense 2.    Current events article can come from any verifiable source: actual newspaper, online articles, magazines, journals, documentaries, etc   MUST BE WITHIN PAST MONTH               3.    Student must relate current event to past, present, or future class material/themes *Include a basic summary of: Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How of the topic If it is a family with internal (micro) issues: 1.    Identify the race/ethnicity/type the family 2.    Identify the issue the family is facing 3.    Identify how the family issue is dealt with 4.    What can we learn from this article? If it is a family with social (macro) issue: 1.    Identify the race/ethnicity/type of family 2.    Identify the culture the article is portraying 3.    What are the positive or negative traits/behaviors/practices shown? 4.    What can we learn from this article? If it is a thriving family: 1.    Identify the race/ethnicity/type of family 2.    Identify why and how this family is successful 3.    What are the positive traits/behaviors/practices shown? 4.    What can we learn from this article?   Part 2: Your critic: (One paragraph) – 5 points – Due Saturday 11/21 1.    What do you think the author wanted you to think about the topic? What was his/her real motivation: informative, moral, call-to-action, other? Evidence of such? 2.    Do you think the author presented his/her position successfully? Why or why not? 3.    What is your opinion on the information in the article? Did the article change your opinion on the topic? Why or why not? What did you learn?
