Scott Harrison, a former nightclub influencer, transitioned from a life he described as being polluted with drugs and alcohol, to work with humanitarian efforts. From working with humanitarian efforts, Harrison realized that he could make a difference in the world by assisting those less fortunate. Harrison’s work with Mercy Ships provided him the opportunity to create his own charity. Charity: Water with the mission of providing clean drinking water for the 1 billion people in their world without access to it.Harrison created a four-pronged plan including: (1) guaranteeing donations would directly finance clean water projects, (2) using GPS devices to provide visual evidence that the donations were directly impacting the areas where they said they were, (3) marketing with a positive message focusing on hope, opportunity, and fun, and (4) connecting with local organizations and stakeholders to sustain the organization. Harrison’s success has led to a successful charity and successful organization that is making real and measurable change in communities around the world.
