Getting around the Roman Empire was a chore mostly because of difficult transportation and the lack of safety along the roads. As a result, roads across the Empire were mostly routes used by military convoys in times of war. Imagine what a male traveler from Rome to London would have endured during his trip. Where would he have spent the night? What about eating?
